Dežo Ursiny – Let´s Make a Summer (Vinyl)

The compilation album by Dežo Ursiny Let´s Make a Summer is a historical document that maps the second half of the 1960s, i.e., the first years of this legendary musician’s career. It is a faithful picture of the era in which Slovak beat music was being born, but also a look at the compositional development Ursiny went through in a short time. The first half of the album belongs to songs from the days of the band The Beatmen, which in its time achieved success similar to Beatlemania. Even then, Dežo Ursiny showed his great compositional talent in songs such as Let´s Make a Summer and Break It, which in no way lagged behind foreign productions. Another strong artistic mark was Ursiny’s second band, The Soulmen. This era is represented by four songs originating from a period EP album, which is the only one that captures the songs of this trio. Less known, but no less important, was also the short existence of the band The New Soulmen, from whose period the album’s final two songs come. These were already a harbinger of the coming decade, in which Ursiny emerged as a full-blooded art rock musician.
