The latest release in The Hermetic Organ series is a beautiful and evocative tribute to one of John Zorn’s greatest mentors, the pioneering West Coast visionary Terry Riley. Recorded at the historic Grace Cathedral in San Francisco during an epic concert cycle in September 2023 celebrating Zorn’s 70th birthday, it is one of Zorn’s most moving and personal organ recitals. Many of the composer’s closest and oldest friends were present in the audience, lending the music a profound spiritual dimension. The spirit of Terry Riley—one of Zorn’s early influences and dearest friends—permeates this entire work. Magical!
