Afel Bocoum

Afel Bocoum is a Malian singer and guitarist who began his career in Ali Farka Touré's group ASCO. In the 1980s, he founded his own band, Alkibar, blending traditional instruments like the njarka and njurkel with acoustic guitar. Bocoum sings primarily in Sonrai, but also in Tamasheq and Fulfulde. His lyrics address social issues such as women's rights and forced marriages. Notable albums include "Alkibar" (1999), "Niger" (2006), and "Lindé" (2020).
