formerly Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service
Alexander "Skip" Spence was an American musician known as a founding member of Jefferson Airplane and Moby Grape. In 1969, he released his only solo album, "Oar," recorded over four days in Nashville, with Spence playing all instruments. The album blends elements of psychedelic rock, folk rock, and acid folk. Despite initial commercial failure, "Oar" has achieved cult status and is considered a significant contribution to psychedelic music. Spence's career was marked by personal and health challenges that affected his musical output following the album's release.
