Karel Kryl was a Czechoslovak singer-songwriter and poet known for his protest songs against the communist regime. His 1969 debut album, "Bratříčku, zavírej vrátka," features the title track that became a symbol of resistance against the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia. After emigrating to Germany in 1969, he worked for Radio Free Europe and continued his musical career. Upon returning in 1989, he criticized the country's political developments. His works include albums such as "Rakovina" (1969) and "Tekuté písky" (1990).
