Olivier Messiaen

Olivier Messiaen was a French composer known for his innovative approaches to rhythm and harmony. While imprisoned in a German POW camp in 1940, he composed "Quatuor pour la fin du Temps" for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano, which premiered in the camp in 1941. Other significant works include "Turangalîla-Symphonie" and "Catalogue d'oiseaux". Messiaen also taught at the Paris Conservatoire, influencing many composers. His music often drew inspiration from nature and religious themes.
