The Sea and Cake is an American indie rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Formed in the mid-1990s, the group consists of members from The Coctails (Archer Prewitt), Shrimp Boat (Sam Prekop and Eric Claridge), and Tortoise (John McEntire). The band's name originated from a misinterpretation of the song title "The C in Cake" by Gastr del Sol. Their music blends elements of indie rock, post-rock, and jazz rock. Starting with their 1997 album "The Fawn," they incorporated electronic instruments such as drum machines and synthesizers, while maintaining their distinctive style influenced by jazz, samba, and bossa nova. Their latest album, "Any Day," was released in May 2018.
