Yael Bartana is a visual artist born on December 22, 1970, in Afula, Israel. She studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, the School of Visual Arts in New York, and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Known for her films, photographs, and installations, Bartana's work explores issues of cultural identity and collective memory. In 2011, she represented Poland at the 54th Venice Biennale. Her works have been exhibited in institutions such as the Moderna Museet in Malmö, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, and PS1 in New York. She has received awards including the Anselm Kiefer Award (2003) and the Artes Mundi Prize (2010).
